over loaded power strip caught on fire

This customer had a power strip that was overloaded and melted and caught on fire. Luckily the damage was not to extensive, but it is still a good reminder to make sure you are aware of the amount of energy running through one. People who live in older homes often try to compensate for a lack of outlets by using power strips,” Williams said. “However, this is dangerous because an outlet can only safely receive a certain amount of power, and when it's overloaded, this can cause a fire.”

Picture of condinsation on widow

Make sure your widows are sealed.

This customer had a leak coming through their window. Over time the moisture seeped into the walls and caused mold. The reason is that a leaky window will ultimately cause mold. Moisture or dampness is the perfect condition for mold to grow. When you look at leaky windows and frames, you are most likely to see black spots, discoloration, and fuzzy growths, being wet or moist. SERVPRO of Rapid City does not do window work but they were able to mitigate the mold beneath the window. This consisted of removing the damaged dray wall, then drying out the framing and applying an antimicrobial to the surrounding surfaces.

  3. Install transient voltage surge suppressions.
  4. Check your homeowners and renter’s insurance coverage.
